Recently the Victoria Beach Cottage Owners Association (VBCOA) executive was replaced by individuals closely associated with the Save Our Sands (SOS) Facebook site and the Victoria Beach Shoreline Protection Association (VBSPA). These individuals have generated unreasonable fears through the promotion of selective scientific citations about beach loss associated with “hard” protection of eroded cliff-banks along shorelines with large public beaches. The intent of these individuals is to provide themselves with a degree of legitimacy in the minds of their Victoria Beach neighbours, various levels of government, the press and the judicial courts. Essentially all organized channels of information flow to the community, government, press and courts are now controlled by the same special interest group that is providing an incomplete scientific viewpoint that’s in conflict with lakefront cottage owners. Thus, the voices of lakefront owners and other property owners who believe in private property rights have been eliminated.
